Musoma gets all its water from Lake Victoria, through a number of intakes.
Bukanga is the most significant intake with a treated water capacity of 36,000 m3/day.
Mutex and Bweri are other intakes (with a combined capacity of roughly 2400m3).
The Musoma water supply system from Bukanga Water Treatment Plant is supplied via Nyamiongo tank while the water from Mutex and Bweri intakes is supplied through direct pumping. There is one booster station that pumps water to Mara tank and Buhare tank.
The Musoma water supply system has a number of tanks dotted around the town. The total storage capacity of tanks is around 7,000 m3.
The distribution network is divided into 4 operational zones; namely Zone A, Zone B, Zone C and Zone D.
